Old fashioned ballcock valves

Looks like they still sell these things. Both in brass and stainless steel. And they’re really not that expensive. What do you think in terms of service life? I’m not a big fan of this plastic garbage they sell at Home Depot. Are there any downsides to the ball float valve that we grew up with?

Brass, no metal problems and won't gall the threads.

Those metal ball ***** were reparable.

I really like the FluidMaster plastic fill valves, they do work fine and last a long time.

The Fluidmaster 400A is a good product, & the one part that gives any trouble is easily replaceable.
