I found this off I-35 in OK. I plan on building a pole barn soon but with this site Now I find myself searching out old signs, gas stations and architecture. When I see them I pull over and snap away. I will add some influences to the build for sure.

show your old shops, gas stations, mechanic garages.

Here is a well preseved Petrofina Canada Station from possibly the fifties. It still has that trademark circular office intact. Most have been hacked to death or demolished entirely. This one is on the main drag in Woodstock, Ontario, (where I lived in another life).

This is two miles from the farm I grew up on. Small town of about 300. Went to grade school in the same town. I just took thi photo today , I don't think it will be around much longer. The place used to have a grill and my Mom would take me there after school for a drumstick ice cream cone.

See my avatar. Actually, a larger version is in my album. The picture is of Lou's Garage on opening day 1957. The Grand Opening signs and flags were not even up yet. In the early 60's it "grew" a third bay. This station won the New York State Service Station of the Year award twice (when people cared about such things). In 1965 Lou (my dad) passed away and we were forced to sell. It sat vacant and deteriorated, the new owners let it deteriorate further and, eventually, all that porcelean covered steel exterior was removed and the building was refaced. Last I checked (2009) it was still an auto repair shop but you could drive right past it now and never recognize it as the same building. I often wonder if the workbench is still in place. It was one piece, too big and heavy to move (all welded steel) so I had to leave it there. I still have a copy of the blueprints, if I ever hit lotto...

Here is one near my home with the Chevelle out front. The gas pumps were removed about 15 years ago, but it's been empty much longer than that.

I though the same idea... to take some gas pumps and sell them for k's. But is that what they did? I wish you could get some pics of the inside, and also you still have the Coca Cola signs.

sry i have nothing to really add. except i was oddly surprised when i scrolled through to find a picture of a local garage. The one in Woodstock Ontario is still empty but has a picnic area and one of those mobile fajitas trailers parked in the lot with permant barriers around it.

Well, brando090
this is whats inside ...

Unfortunately I believe it has sat unraised longer that BB767 s ever sat unused.
All of the lighting isn't from my phones flash.

Its coming from the roof and ceiling that's no longer there.

Here's one from Norway, at Grimsbu in the Rondane mountain area.
Last weekend, my Indian parked up front.

The gas station was built in '55-'56 I believe, and recently restored.

Unfortunately you can't see the pumps in these two pictures. These are along old State route 40 in central Ohio circa 1938. (I grew up in Ohio, love state route 40, a very old and very historic American road.) Anyway, the signs are great. How do you like 6 gallons of gas for a buck? These are FSA (Farm Service Administration) photos. This particular photographer shot lots of small town photos all over the Ohio Valley.

Here a couple of pictures of an old station that I ran across in North Central Kansas. There is a smooth stone at the top of one of the arches that says 1928.

Presently trying to move this one to my brother's house.

I terribly understimated the weight.

1920s Skelly station, moved to present location in 1951. Fooking heavy.

This is an old service station in Utica, NY. Not sure if it was ever a gas station as there is no island anymore or evidence of one. I looked into purchasing this property but sadly someone beat me to it. Sold for $5000.00

Another gas station a bit north of utica,ny. I have been by this one several times but sadly never had my camera on me to take photos. Now it appears as though someone has bought it or the state has taken over demo. Why would the sign read restoration if it was to be torn down? I am hoping it is in the midst of being restored with the states help. Weekly pics to come on this garage.

Looks like the tanks that were in the ground have been removed. Sadly I missed that as well as I just happened to pass by and see this happening yesterday.

I found this one when I got off the interstate in GA on our way to Savannah for VaCa last year. I did a thread on it asking what would you do with it but can't find it.

Here's the overall shots showing the design. Believe it or not, the base of the lift was still in there along with the tank. Sadly, I don't epect it will be around much longer. It's already missing its roof.

Keep 'em comin', boys and girls! We can't let this art form die.:scared:

There's a few I see when I go out to KC for a panel jam in Sept. This time, I'll try to stop and get some pics.

Thing about many of these 30',40',50's stations is they were build out of concrete block (cinderblock), poured concrete, and even steel panels........while many look crappy today they might be fairly solid in structure...........

Great pics BTW...................

An old friend of mine has a old Standard Oil station like this one he and I rebuilt that belonged to his Grand Dad that was built back in the late 50's. His Dad inherited it in the early 80's and disassembled it and it was stored until 2002. It went together like an erector set and each piece was numbered. His has all the pumps, lifts, signs, lights, toolboxes and alot of the old stock. It was re-assembled inside a huge pole building. It was steel frame and porcelain enameled steel panels on the outside.

Only bad thing about those old concrete block buildings is when they sweat. They are stout though. DIY570 do you live by it too? that would be perfect

I do have pics of it but it was before I owned a digital camera and they would need to be scanned in to post them...and I don't own a scanner!

I have the same problem with pics of my own garage which a few have asked for pics of. I am looking to buy a scanner soon.

It would probably be easier to take new pics with my digital camera.

3bay , PLEASE get us some photos of the STANDARD OiL you helped relocate !!

I should be able to get some more examples this weekend.
Central Illinois is dotted with small communities many of which still have old stations still standing.

Here's a link to Brick's back in the days of 29 cent gas. The site won't let me copy:

Here's Brick's Service Station now. It's across the street from the ocean in Nags Head, NC. Built in 1965 and has two bathrooms.
It's for sale for $319k. It will likely be replaced with a giant rental beach house.

Cougar, I have looked at those pictures for hours, many memories there...I love the way Nags Head used to be when I was a kid!

Teddy Bear's Truck Stop, Utah - The truck stop was at the end of Skull Valley which led to the entrance of Dugway Proving Grounds Army Base. I was stationed there in the late 1980's and apparently the truc kstop closed down shortly after. I remember they had a bunch of different Elvis stuff there for sale. Never took any pictures of my own, but then again I was only 21 and thought everything lasted forever.

Here's one that's on a 2 lane section of US 36 cutting through central Illinois.
Looking a little rough.
