Hello. We have an old combo tub/shower spout that was leaking (along with a broken toilet flange) that I finally got around to working on. Anyway, I finally got the old spout off and from what I can tell there is a 3/4" inch elbow(?) inside the wall that feeds the pipe to the combo tub/shower spout. I will attach some pictures to show you what we had, and what we're trying to hook up.

Delta rep confirmed we have the old 1400 series fixtures, including the RP 5834 spout. Somebody before we moved in, hooked a piece of 3/4" inch plastic pipe from the elbow (inside the wall) into the tub spout. The distance from the end of the old spout, through the wall to the elbow is about 1-1/2" inches. When I look at the new spout, it's the same size but the inside hole is NOT threaded - it's smooth & has an "O" ring, and is only about 1/2" to just under 5/8" in diameter. So I'm trying to figure out how to get the new spout hooked up to my existing plumbing.

Forgive my ignorance but I've never changed a tub spout before. How do they come apart? I see the square set screw in the new spout - is that just for removing it or does it provide access to the spout hardware/pipes inside?

AS always, thanks in advance to all those who offer help & advice!!!

your new spout is designed as a slip fit over 1/2" (5/8OD) copper . then there's a set screw that will tighten to hold it in place
your "3/4" " elbow is probably 1/2" NPT . solder an adapter to a pc of copper , tighten it in there and slip the spout over it.
that style of spout is very forgiving with length of pipe required , but probably about 4" long is good

Hello! Sorry for the delay in getting back here. My son finally found a way to mount the spout and it's working. We have some family visiting so we're not gonna mess with the bathroom till they go. But I'm not sure I want to leave things they way they are (kind of mickey moused)
