Good morning everyone I need some advice.
Yesterday I had pick up a hunter D111 off Craigslist for $450 with stands and turn plates, the guy who sold it to me work at the shop and he state the machine works fine. When picking it up u we turn on the machine and it work screen display, latest update was at 2000. but we never tested/plugged in the head sensors to test them. Once I got home with the machine I turn on the machine and I go plug in the wires to the heads and there's a short in the head making the computer to shut down and never turned on again.. I told the guy about it and he said I have to call the owner of the shop because he doesn't get pay for helping me or for helping the shop. What should I do? Let this go and learn from it or try get some money back? I feel so depressed about it. Please help.

Sorry for my English and if this is not the right place to post.

This is why I hate Craigslist. 8 out of 10 experiences I've had there have been people trying to rip me off. I've had much better luck on forums and sites that attract enthusiasts.

That *****, sounds like it didn't want to move. I hope you can find the problem and make it go. I would check for a fuse that could have popped to get you back to where you were, then look over the cable really good for kinks or frayed spots that could have cued your short. Don't give up, then you lost $450.

I would taking him to small claims court as it's under $5000.00 where I live an attorney isn't required.

I had the machine on when I plug in one of the front head, the head light up for a sec and when I look at the screen was off and won't turn on. I go closer to the head sensor and I smelled burn abit, I check the other side and doesn't smell like the one I plug in. I suspect that head was going bad and when I plug it in it short up . I'm so depressed at work thinking of $450 going down the drain

I live in Delaware and I never went to small claims court before. I don't know if is worth it to go tru all that, either move on and live it with which *****.

The Guy who sold it did write me a receipt from the shop. That says it sold me the d111 and stands for $450

The stands are worth $450 alone, the heads still have value. You can look on E bay and buy complete sets of heads. I just bought another machine last Sunday for $250.00 It is an L111 and the heads are like new. I still need to compare this on to my K111 that just got calibrated to see which is better. The L111 is 1/4 the size of the K111 so I am thinking of keeping the L111. But for $250 to have a spare set of heads, like new cables, extra wheel clamps and another working machine, I may just hang onto both.... Good luck with your quest. PM me if you need any instructions or info I have gathered most of it now.

That's certainly a bummer but and it's worth talking to the seller but I don't think they have any legal obligation to give you anything. It's an old machine and you had the opportunity to test it when you picked it up and I suspect that it worked then. It's not uncommon for old equipment (or even new, for that mater) to fail when it gets moved.

I bought an L111 a couple of years ago from a shop. Don't remember what I paid for it, but I think $600 or $700. The screen was a little discolored when I bought it. I learned to use it , and aligned a few of my own cars, then one day a year or so later the screen bit the dust. The computer would run properly, but you couldn't see the readouts.

I couldn't find any spare parts anywhere for it. I looked for months. I tried wiring in another CRT or a computer monitor, but couldn't find anything that told how it was wired. I finally sold it to another guy who needed the heads for $400 or so. Anyway, i lost some money, but I learned how to do alignments, and I'm on a lookout for one of the later model pc based units.

Bottom line, you can probably get your money back parting it out.

Why don't you contact a Hunter authorized mobile service tech and have him take a look at it. May be an easy fix and be worth a little scratch to get him out on a service call. We have a mobile Hunter rep that services our equipment and he's always easy to deal with.

Thanks everyone for the input, I talked to the owner of the shop today and he was very polite and helpful but he didn't wanna take the machine back, he gave me some Hunter tech number that I'll try to call tomorrow and see if I can get more information about what could be wrong with the unit. Then I asked the owner if he is willing to give me 2 free alignment out of his shop and he said he was fine with it. I will keep u guys update
