I am buying some tools from a guy whose garage is out of business.

In the corner I found a very old IR Type 30 Model 253 This compressor is horizontal. The owner says that the air compressor is a 'beast' but someone has taken the head off and it is laying to the side. The owner says it was running the last time he remembered..somebody must have been tinkering with it.

Anyway.. is this thing worth $100? It looks like it was built in a tank factory..everything looks heavy duty compared to modern plastics and chinese metals.

"It ran when I parked it..."

No one takes the head off of a compressor just to dink around with it. Something's broken. What that is determines whether it's worth 100 bucks, or 10 cents/hundredweight. It could also likely be three phase, which might be a deal breaker for you.

Without knowing more about condition, age, what's wrong, and the cost to fix it, you'd be hard pressed to say what it's worth.

I'd say go for it. Make sure all the parts are there. As far as I know, I/R will still have parts for that machine, pics will help.
Did you notice the HP of the motor??
