Old jack

I bought this old jack from some one who just wanted it gone, figured it was $5 why not! Got it to the shop and found out why he wanted it gone. It doesn't work. No lift no nothing! Figured the plunger seal was shot so I went to the hardware store got a seal (really tight fit) and it still doesn't do anything. The fluid moves according to the position if the plunger but that's about it. No idea brand model or anything on the back under the handle is stamped 291756. Searched the Web and came up with nothing but presidential history. Any help would be appreciated!!

Yes I have. I've done everything I can think of (and read) to this thing all to no avail. I'm sure the ram seals are shot on it but I'd rather buy a kit for it and do everything all at once.

That looks like a couple of the smaller jacks I've had. They range from about $18-25 new. Honestly I would just take it apart to see how it was constructed if that interests you. Personally I just throw those in the recycling bin when they act up. I'm sure if you really wanted to you could figure out what is wrong and fix it. It's just that most people wouldn't think it worth the time and effort.

It can't be much? I assume you have check and bled the oil?
As said I would take it apart and see what you can find, you may well find its just a split O ring?
I have had a similar one for the last 30 years and it still work on the rare occasion I need a small compact trolley jack.
Its a shame to throw it away.
