Hi all, I'm new here and need some help. I picked up a homemade air compressor yesterday. It has a Kellogg EM-52/10599 air pump made in Rochestor NY. I can't find any info on this pump. It works great and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it, when it was made. The guy that put this together knew what he was doing, 100 gallon propane tank, not sure about the motor as it was painted, I can get the serial # off it but didn't see any brand name. Runs up to 90psi and shuts off and holds pressure all day. I'll get some pics up soon. It's old with no rust anywhere.

Serial number on electric motor is 109M88C, can't find any brand name.

Thanks for your help.

Also thinking 100 lb. propane tank is like a 25 gallon air tank.

Needs a real flywheel not that giant solid pulley. The flywheel on the pump is also a fan that cools the pump. The head on that must get insanely hot.

I would not pay $75 for that. It needs work. A new flywheel at minimum. Also it probably does not have a drain in the bottom since it was a propane tank laid on its side. It may have gallons of water in there rusting the tank away.

Hi, no water in tank when purged, it has a drain valve in bottom of tank. No bad propane smell when tank is drained. I paid $50 for it. Just interested in the compressor pump and electric motor some knowledge about it, hp and cfm. Also when I ran it, did not get hot whatsoever pump or motor but will look into getting a fan type flywheel for it. It works just fine, changed oil with synthetic.

For parts only I think you did well. I would NOT trust the tank, sorry. Good catch on the large pulley. I couldn't think that far ahead as the thing scares me.

But a good electric motor is always worth $50 so the pump was freeeeeeeeeee!

holy ****....I'm with Zeke on this one. Run Forrest Run!!!!!

The site of that tank scares the **** out of me. Looks like a small 1HP 3450 RPM single phase motor which is probably worth $40 on a good day at a swap meet. If it were a 3HP or 5HP 1725 RPM motor, then it would be worth something.

Flywheels are engineered specific to the compressor. Good luck trying to find an OEM flywheel if you wanted to try and salvage the compressor only.

The rule of thumb for reciprocating compressor output is 4 scfm per horsepower. However, the motor pulley and compressor flywheel have to be properly sized. Both cylinders appear to be the same diameter so it's most likely a single stage pump. Based on the age of the compressor, I'd also say the compressor was probably meant to operate at a 700-1000 RPM max.
