33x48 shop, I have about 24 foot worth of 30" tall upper cabinets from my kitchen remodel last year. They are 12 or 18" deep, I forget.

My initial plan was to put them above 24' of workbenches... but it seems it would be hard to get into them without a stool, reaching up and over the bench.

One thought I had was to to two rows, so 12' wide x 60" tall, not on top of workbenches, with the top of them being within reaching height.

Any ideas on how I could better use them? Anyone else do anything with similar cabinets and have some pictures to inspire me?

Thanks!!

Novicaine heres a shot of my cabinets while I was redoing my garage . I can reach the lower shelves from the floor . The upper shelves do require a stepstool but I dont keep things I need daily on the upper shelves. These are 12" deep metal kitchen cabinet uppers and 24" deep lowers from the 50's. I am 5'9" and can reach the entire lower shelf and most of the middle shelf off of the floor only the top shelf requires a stool. The uppers are mounted 24" above the lowers aqs that let me split a sheet of pegboard down the middle and not waste any :D.

I don't have pictures, but mine are similar to Rick's. I built the uppers 12" deep and mounted them 24" above my bench top. I built raised panel doors and instead of the panel in the middle, I used plexiglass so I could see what I have stored in there.

Rick's setup is good. The only thing I would do is set them all up on french cleats so they can be moved easily.

Google french cleat if you do not know what they are. Strips of 3/4" plywood makes a great french cleat.

Here is mine, I have 3 shelves innside, a little trouble seeing what's in the top shelves but I have no trouble reaching them. I have spare parts, powertools and other stuff that I don't need everyday in the top shelves. The bottom shelve in the one to the right containes a big battery-charger and I just pull out the cables when I need to charge a battery.:)

I am in the process of painting my cabinets.

My garage ceiling is 7' 6", so I mounted my upper cabinets touching the ceiling. The bottom of the cabinets are 24" from the top of the workbench. I need a step stool to reach the top shelves, but I can live with that.

Kitchen cabinets work great! I can easily reach mine, but the work surface below them is only 26" deep.
