Got this a month or so ago in a lot of tools along with a Kobalt 3/8 air ratchet(newer). Both were in rough shape and neither were guaranteed to work so I didn't put any value on them. Figured if they didn't work it'd be something to play with at least.
Ratchet ended up working so it's out to market but the impact wouldn't turn over, just blow air out the bottom. Messed with the hammer assembly and line assembly when I had time and got it cleaned up and nothing so I broke down the selector assembly and drive shaft (not the right phrase I'm sure but drive rod that connected to the hammer assembly and had a large cylinder with I think 6 flat pieces slide into inserts on the rear end) today and it finally turned over.
Actually sounds pretty nice compared to the few I've seen used before, don't actually use pneumatics because of the noise. Doesn't have the loud high pitch tone I expected, actually sounded more like a motor but I was just revving it up to see if it'd hang up and blow out the excess oil. Haven't tried it under load since I don't have anything immediately available.
So now I'm curious who the OEM would've been on this. It's been abused quite a bit so the label only has the word Kobalt left readable. I remember hearing Kobalt used to have a decent OEM and if this thing holds up to a load test it might actually stick around.
