Old locker parts?

So I have a few lockers in my garage that I salvaged from work. They are old - approximately 1960s vintage, manufactured by Lyon. The are a great size, ~18”x18”x72”, and there are two side by side. Long story short, but one of the latch handles is broken. Anyone have ideas on where to but one? To be clear, I can find them from a couple of locker suppliers, but most are charging appreciably more for shipping than for the part itself, and i don’t think any of these are worth the the asking price (assuming they are imported and new). Anyone have a lead on used locker parts? Seems there must be a pile of these somewhere that are no longer in service. Figure if anyone would know it would be this group.

I've shipped a lot of small auto parts the last few years and there is no such thing as inexpensive shipping these days. Often a $1 part could cost $20 in shipping my cost. Attempts to ship even O-rings in envelopes here get caught by USPS as a parcel and not a first class letter.

Have you tried ebay?

Lockers haven't really changed too much over the years. New parts are most likely the same, or fit the same. Sometimes it is easier to just pay the money and buy the piece from a dealer so you know you are getting the right stuff.

For small item the "Flat Rate Box" at the Post Office has served me well, but there are always "Shipping and Handling" costs.

Well I found what I needed on e-bay. They had just the outside price, which is the part that is broken on my locker. Cost me 9.95 for 4 and was free shipping. Wish me luck.

actually it is $9.95 for parts and shipping. The "free" thing is to make it easier for people who can't bring themselves to pay shipping costs. Same seller will often have three ads, one for 4/ $9.95 w/ free shipping, one for 4/ $5 + $4.95 for shipping, and one for 4 / $2.75 + $7.20 shipping. Glad it worked out. We all have drawers full of those kinds of things where we had to buy more than one to make the cost work out, but if any more break you are prepared. :)

I worked for a school district for a few years, I was over the flooring but when I was slow I would help out some of the other trades and I spent a fair amount of time repairing lockers in the summer. All the manufacturers make good lockers and they are all pretty durable. Under normal usage they will pretty much last forever, they just don't wear out at all. It takes some pretty serious abuse to damage lockers. If you find some used lockers by the big names like penco, lyon, etc and they haven't been abused they will literally last you forever in a home setting unless you treat them like the 16 year olds in high school. We never had trouble getting parts for old lockers either.
