im considering picking up this old Lathe. the tag says 212 , is that the model number ? its missing the whole drive system / top cover. otherwise it looks complete, and not too rusty. Anyone else got one of these ?

212 looks like a inventory tag.
I've had a couple of those pass through my ownership. A good light weight lathe on par with Atlas and Southbend of the same size. That said depending on the model the top cover could be part of the drive. That is a change gear machine so you want the set of change gears that goes with it. From jsut seeing what is in the pictures there is a lot to be done to get that operating. If you start scrounging or ebaying for parts you could invest a lot of money. On the other hand you could make a bit parting that machine out if what is there is good.

Could be a 200 or a 210. Should be able to tell by the serial number.

That's a parts lathe. But, if you buy it, look around and see if you can find the collet chuck for it, you've got the closer draw rod mechanism in the headstock, but the chuck side is missing.
That looks like the smaller 9 or 10" lathe, and as already stated, it's a change gear lathe so you'd need to have the gear to go with it to make it usable for anything but basic turning.
From what I see there, I'd want it to be in the <$350 range to consider it. I just bought a much, much better 11" one this past week. It had multiple 3 and 4 jaw and jacobs chucks, has quick change, and a lot of miscellaneous tooling. I paid about $800 for it in a combination deal with other equipment. And that was from a guy who knew what it was, not an estate or uneducated sale.

Scott Logan at Logan Actuator can tell you all about it and furnish parts. It has no power cross feed. It uses the half nuts for power longitudinal feed. It is 10". The top is heavy cast iron and provides the tension for the flat belt. Most parts are available used on eBay. New parts aren't cheap. It is a ball bearing headstock. The 212 is a variant of the 210.

The model and serial #s are stamped on the end of the bed between the ways. Montgomery Wards also sold them at one time.
