I had caught the old Mac tool top chest as 35" wides. It look like 1980's but with all full wide drawer handles. It is in good shape but it has little fade color. It was used like in mechanic's home.. I did play with it and it is smoother friction slides I has felt..

It is sell for 160 dollars at flea market store by my home.
I am wonder if it is good deal? I am plan to use it as my trailer toolbox to keep all basic tools and some of lugs and nuts. Even I could add more tools in if I am drive long distance with my dodge ram 3500.

Do you have a pic of it? Or remember how many drawers it had? The older matco/mac boxes were built really well, IMHO. $160 for a 36" wide top box seems like a really good deal to me, assuming (dangerous I know) that it is in good working condition and not rusted out. Just my 2¢ If you could find a pic of it, I'm sure that would really help.

I did not take a picture of that. It has a deep drawer on top and middle of tool chest.
I might will go and look at it today. It is feeling as heavier gauge of sheets around box and drawers are clean and easier to pull and close. It look like same as with my friend who work for ford shop over 30 years.

Did it have 10 or 11 drawers? 10 (3 long, 6 split, 1 deep) it would be a MB910, but that is a 33" wide, 16" deep box.

They also made a newer-ish 11 drawer (4 long, 6 split, 1 deep) I don't know the model number, but I THINK those might be 36" wide. Either way if it is in good working condition and not rusted out, I think $160 would be a really good price for one of them.

Yea, they are super sturdy boxes. If you plan on moving it quite often... Well I hope you are strong. :lol_hitti

Does it look like this top chest? This one is 33" wide.

Yes that is exact type but little fade color. I did play with it and it is very smooth than my craftsman's old model friction slides.

I am not moving it often but maybe keep in trailer or in my dodge bed(has hard top tonneau cover and locked.

The older MAC boxes were second only to the Snap-on Road Chest as hell-for-stout.

FWIW, living in a pickup box/trailer is a hard life for a box, as the inertial loads of rough pavement are high. I've seen the welded drawer mounts ripped right off the box sides.

if it's in good shape, and the drawer slides aren't bent, it's probably worth the money.

FWIW

mac and matco had paint issues with boxes through the early 90's.

you'll see a LOT of them faded to orange.

Update:
I did looked at Mac box and it is 33" wide and it was a "peterbilt" truck mechanic box. I did looking around and inspect very closer. It has some problems as no key, broke top lid hinge, few friction slides show bent. I know it can straight out but there some of more things to do. Big problem is no key and it is not in great shape but was used as semi truck mechanic.

I like 33" wide but I saw a snap on 26" Suzuki drag racing (80th year anniversary) and Steve Johnson. It is in much good shape and all drawers show strong and no loose. It show me it was in"wood shop" as some of wood dusts under drawer liners.

I got it for 150 dollars and it felt like good size for me.

33" & 35" wide boxes get heavy really fast, even when empty.

i think my kr550 top wieghs in around 240lbs empty, the kr537 & kr637 are around 200lb empty.

i'd much rather move a 26" wide box rather than a larger one.

Yeah I did figure about pro and con... Problem is Mac has more issues than snap on kra3059. Key to lock are good and I don't need to repair or straight anything on snap on.

I am not plan to keep snap on chest in trailer or in my bed(hard top) all time. It will go with me to Wisconsin in October for vacation as towing my Harley and my dad's Harley as go for good riding at Wisconsin. Then will go to gulf shore for Christmas week vacation as annual family vacation there. Almost every time my family and I go for vacation, we need a tool to fix or repair something at vacation like bicycle get problem. I just don't like to search for pawn store to get tool to fix while I has tons of tools at my garage..
