I have a great local public library that has great quarterly book sales as well as a huge shelf of free books. These items were from the free shelf during my last visit there. Publication dates from 1941-59

Man I love old books like that! Especially 1940's and 1950's - the post-war DIY era!

We have an annual used book sale at the state fairgrounds that has thousands of items. Gotta pay for parking, but I have found some of the greatest books in there over the years.

The New American Machinist Handbook, by McGraw-Hill got it out of a mobile machine shop 5 ton truck when in the Army in Germany dated 1955. Came over to Germany after the Korean War and stored at a Depot in Germachine (SP) I have used the hell out of it, sits right above my puter.

I have got some of those books. The Shaper book is a good one. I also have one on drill press, and jointer. I think those were Audel books at one time.

I have the two huge volumes of "Modern Machine-Shop Practice" by Joshua Rose. Published in the 1890s. All of the illustrations are engravings.

Since I never had anyone in the family teach me about tools or mechanical work, I sort of view these books as long lost grandfathers teaching me the old timer yet still highly relevant knowledge. I love ‘em!

TTpete, those books must be fascinating!
