Picture this. You had a hip replaced and you’re supposed to be on light duty but are back at work. Your normal tool bag is heavy to carry so you throw a few tools in a 5 gallon bucket with a seat so you can sit down if needed.

You drop your stuff off in the loading dock and park your truck 2 streets down and walk back to where you’re working. You proceed down 3 stories underground to a mech room to work on a control panel.

You proceed to mount a device in a control panel with a brand new bit you threw in your bucket and the f ing thing breaks off the tip on the very first screw it has ever seen. You then have to limp back to the truck to get another bit.

Old man rant over. First and last Spyder anything I will ever buy. Maybe this is an unprecedented event with this brand but I can’t risk it again. For us working out of the back of a truck this can eat 30 minutes depending on the parking situation.

Normally I could switch to something else but I don’t want to carry more than 10-15# so I had nothing else.

What about using a wheeled cart to carry the bucket or pack out style box with wheels and sitting on that?

I spent years and years working in a shop out of a huge toolbox with lots of backups and spares. Now on the industrial side of things and working out of a service truck and packing things through huge plants and facilities, deep in mechanical rooms and boiler houses, I know exactly what it means to do a lot, with a little.

Made me think of how I used to always carry my Leatherman Supertool. With so many different drive styles out there now a Leatherman is mostly unwanted extra weight.

I use Bosch bits.. I use those on my dewalt impact tool and have never had one break. And I beat the hell out of them.

Bosch makes among the best everything so far as I can tell.

I do have a little case of dewalt specialty bits.. not sure what they're called, but they're for the kind of fasteners you find on small appliances, toys, etc. Some kind of torx bit with a hole in the middle, and some other oddly shaped driver bits.

First and last Spyder anything I will ever buy.

I had a guy tell me not to buy Spyder brand impact sockets while I was looking at them at the Lowes clearance section. He said they were the worst impact sockets he ever bought and one of them also broke the first time he used them.

I know nothing about the brand and don’t own anything made by them.

It wouldn't give you a seat, but could you switch to a tool backpack?

I've never had a hip replaced, so not sure if it's better to have the weight spread everywhere, or if carrying the bucket on the 'good side' is better.

Spyder is just a brand name.
The quality caries by item.
The jigsaw blades are made in Germany, either by Wilpu or MPS, and are quality.
I’m not sure about a bunch of the other items.

I should probably mention I have dnapped the tip off of a German made screwdriver bit that came in a Hilti kit, and I think that bit might have been made by Felo. (It was a large glat head bit, and I snapped the top off using it in an older NiCd Milwaukee 18v drill/driver).

Being a blue of that color, almost looks like anodized blue on aluminum. Driving a tapcon in concrete ?

I think I wpuld be carrying a couple of Phillips bits, or one of these with extra bits/styles & sizes.

I get not wanting to carry more than the minimum, but if a tool can singlehandedly end your day when it falls, and if that tool is used often, like a #2 Phillips, I try to keep a spare with me.

I broke the tip off of a brand new Snap-on PH2 screwdriver. First use. It happens.

I feel your pain. I always try to get permission to park as close as possible when doing service calls. Its inevitable to have to go back for something.

How is your recovery going?

I thought recovery was going good but still have had more discomfort then I would like and the pain has jumped up a notch this past week which is concerning. If this doesn't get better I regret having the hip replaced as I don't see a benefit. I have been riding my bike and continuing with the therapy exercises but my therapy is over. Did a 10 mile road ride on my mountain bike last night and have been doing a ride a couple days a week. Riding a bike is more comfortable than walking currently.

I normally would have a few with me but due to conditions I took a couple tools and threw them in a bucket and a single brand new phillips impact bit. The bit was a new spare out of my box so I only had one. Under normal conditions I would have 2-3 different lengths or could even use a blade out of my multi tip screw driver.

I actually bought it because I thought the blue finish was cool and rust resistant. I was driving a self drilling 1/2" pan head screw, nothing *********.

Impact use. Broke so quick I couldn't even get an ugga dugga on it. Was with a M12 subcompact impact driver so literally the smallest impact I own.

I have a DeWalt tough box and Klein modbox but they still need to be lifted out of the truck and at that point up to the loading dock. They would be more weight than I'm willing to lift at the moment. I swear the Modbox is about 15#-20# empty.
