I'm Scott, or scottg if you know me from somewhere else.
Old mechanic and woodworker and well, I got a short attention span. I am into a lot of stuff.
No dream garage or anything. I work under a carport on a dirt floor when I'm home, but I did build myself a rough terrain creeper.
Anybody want to see, I could take a pic?
I put together a compressor from the pressure lube tank off a SAG mill and scrounged parts. Its not glamorous but does what I need and the 6" diameter pressure gauge (from the mill) makes it.
I got an old Century arc welder this year after my last one died a smokingly miserable death before my bleary eyes, so I am learning the joys of AC welding (poverty *****).
Always been spoiled by DC but it could be worse I guess.
I'm not real young and have suffered many machines of all kinds in my life. Every old wreck around town for some years and mining equipment in my day, and you know what a posh life mine equipment leads.
I'm semi retired now, which means I wish I could fully retire but oh yeah, -thats- going to happen.
So I take about anything that walks in the door.
About anything that is.
Say what would you do if you were me?
My friend and volunteer fire chief, asked me, (well not directly ask me, just sort of pitiously whined and whined and made the big eyes and some snivveling was involved....... ) to "do" his daughters Chrysler.
It's a 90's model and has a blown head gasket.
The gasket I could do reasonably enough but the head could be warped since we are talking a 19 year old college student who probably drove it till it dropped in a plume of steam.
I can get the head linished if its minor warpage, but its not like there is a junkyard within 3 hours drive from where I type if the old head is trashed.
I don't have space to store the thing for any appreciable length of time either.
I'd like to help but, I dunno, could get ugly.
Think I should shove my neck into a noose?? I could use the money.
I was kind of thinking to just buy the car from her for the price of scrap. Then if it can be repaired reasonable I would sell it back to her for the price of the repair. Or junk it if not.
This could work? I never tried this.
Also, any particular nightmares with 90's Chrysler I don't know about?
