Hello!

I signed up many moons ago, but am getting started constructing a workshop this spring. It's been in the fermenting stages for the past couple of years, and is starting to come together.

Certainly interested in tips and suggestions. I will be doing a lot more research within this site.

The plan (click pics to Biggie-Size them):

May switch to 2x4 studs, with the garage wrapped in styrofoam insulation as well, to control noise & heat.

Old drawing showing only 3 skylights:

Workshop placement is restricted by septic field.

Gwellwood: might i suggest you start a thread over in garage gallery where the garage experts visit more than this little introduction area. i'm guessing you've been enjoying reading the threads for the past 3 years and looking forward to hearing from a neighbor to the north since i live in Seattle.

good luck with your build and i'll take a closer look at it when you start a thread over in garage gallery and see if i have any thoughts since i sold homes for 30 years in a past life.

welcome (again)

Ah....know I understand the offset to the rear right after seeing your property. I'm in Ohio and I am real happy that I went with the 2x6" studs....16" on center. I feel it made for a strong, sturdy build. Just my opinion. It looks good to me! Good luck!

I will start up a build thread, thanks. Figured I'd start with what my plan is.

Hmmm.... My introduction is kinda weak. How aboot this:

I'm a high school shop teacher, teaching Metal, Mechanics and Drafting.

I'm into cars, working my way from basic bolt-on to V8 Pintos and Vegas, then got into autocross racing and started learning suspension dynamics.

I built a Lotus Super 7 replica (often called a Locost) from scratch back in '06 (and got it street legal). I have another frame mostly complete which is much more accurate a clone.

Then started (and am still in the process of) building a V8 rwd Pontiac Firefly (Chevy Sprint). I started this in the school auto shop, but recently had a really crappy group of kids come through, so I hauled it home to complete there.

Then I built a cheap '77 Silverado as a daily driver after my lowrider Hardbody was too small for me and my two boys. 10.9:1 and a lumpy cam - the minimal fuel economy is offset by the "potato-therapy."

...All the while amassing tools and equipment that now no longer fits in my two-car garage.

I am nowhere near the talent I see on this site - I'm merely a two bit hack who is still learning.

That might be a better intro. Sorry. </typical-canadian>

Great builds! That v8 sprint is awesome. I've never seen it around Victoria, I'm guessing you're on the mainland.

Welcome to the forum, buddy!

Gwell: nice intro thread now and i'll look at your build when i get some time tonight or after the Seahawks win the super bowl tomorrow.

in the meantime i wanted to welcome you again and let you know i played Penticton golf course for 2 weeks ever summer from 1966-1972 when my parents and friends spent our vacations up there.

cars look great and sorry to hear the kids are idiots and don't want to learn some great skills. maybe the next group will be a bit more attentive.
