I was unable to post all pics in the same post for some reason.

They are on the way home, will need a lil more prep work before painting than I thought but it will be a fun project.

got em for $200, still cheaper than building a set after paint etc and I think they will look cool

Big trailer full of AWESOME steel vintage 50's cabinets . . . GREAT SCORE . .
. . .
. . . . . guess you got your underwear on and raced out door for roadtrip !!! :D

And you bet your booty . . . . YOU **** !!!!

I've got extra handles if you want them. I changed mine to different ones.

Got the stainless backsplashes, sink the whole 9 yards.

The bottom of the sink cabinet will need a little work but the rest is just surface rust and looks to be no big deal.

I will redo the sink as a few chips have been taken out

I put my underwear on as quickly as I could after the suggestions on here.

Getting at least 1 gas pump from what I think is the 60s from the FIL, he has 1 more with the round glass that I believe he called gravity pump that I may get as well

I am only 36 so I dont know much about this older stuff other than it looks cool now and even cooler I think after restoring them.

I know I need at least 1 and that would be awesome if I can get what I need. I was thinking I was going to need to change them because of the missing one or two and I did not want to.

Ill paypal you. I need to take a closer look to make sure it is only 1.

awesome looking cabinets you have!

Have you looked at the lower corner cabinet? I was wondering if it has a drawer on top or is it a false front. Does it have a lazy Susan shelf?

1940s era cabinets. The cast iron, double sink, double drainboard sink is worth a lot more than what you paid.

ill say that most of the "antique" shops around here will do a quick sand and paint and have those listed for 800-1100 bucks. they are all priced very high in my area and every time i stop in to look at something they have a different set. must be moving. i dunno.

nice price. love metal cabinets.

Guy at work bought a set of those and never used them. He sold them out of his storage locker to somebody out of New York that came down and paid him around $1200 for them.

They're not my style but happy for you getting them.

Cat: you scored and i think you know that by now. good luck on the restoration and DZ's example looks pretty damn good for one to imitate.

DZ: how did you build the wood tops? did you glue and screw 2 x 4's together or do tell?

Yes, made in two sections, glued 2x4 and ran through a 12 inch planer, glued together. I had a friend make them for me. I sanded them down after they were joined.

Catdj78, pm me your address and I'll mail them down to you. no charge. (I'll have to find out where I buried them).

Those are SO COOL . . . Go GET THEM before someone snatches them out from under your very nose.

I mean re-arrange your X-mas plans and Drive there in your underwear !!

Those could easily sell for $50 to $60 . . EACH separate cabinet !!

Offer $150 for the whole lot, and bring 6 pack beer, X-mas cookies, etc !!

Good luck.

EDIT: Typing at same time . . LOL. Negotiate him down to $175 or $200 which is still a good deal. If you don't use sink or corner cabs, you could sell those to lower your net cost.

If I knew where this guy had the offer I would beat him there and pay top dollar for these cabinets. You just can find things like that anymore.

Looking around CL like I usually do when I am bored I came across this fridge. What really annoys me though is that I was just right down the road from this guy yesterday when I was picking the cabinets up....150 miles away. If I would have known about it I would have bought it yesterday. I called the guy and he still has it, looks like another road trip in a few days when I can get away if he still has it

What would you offer for this fridge?

Would be pretty cool next to the cabinets I think

No idea of value, but that thing is beyond cool. Get it.

I was born in the wrong era for sure.

I am going to get it Friday I think if he still has it but this time I am going to make sure there is nothing else in that area I want. $50 in diesel for the round trip

Great score on those cabinets. Please show your restoration process.
I bought a few Westinghouse cabinets this summer and will paint them when it warms up. I used French cleats for mounting to the wall. IMO the best way to go for installation.

Cheers, Kip

Make some phone calls to friends with little S10 or Ranger pickup. Heck they might want to get away on Friday - - break from the "inlaws" and such !! :D Cover his fuel and pizza dinner when you get back. Might make for fun trip and low cost when driving on petrol gas instead of diesel.

I'd say that frig (if runs at all) would be screaming deal under $100 . . . and another YOU **** if you can get it between $50 and $75 !! ;) Good luck.

As a kid, we had similar looking old school frig that ran on natural gas. Man I'd love to have that thing now. See vintage Electrolux NG frig for $200 for comparison at:

The guy wants $150 for it but I would think I could get it for $100 but I also ran across an old table saw

think I will pick them both up if I can get away Friday. Depends on what the wife has planned.

My shop isn't even built yet. Trusses being built and expected for delivery in about 3 weeks now. Already have several projects lined up.

When the wife I bought this house I remodeled everything but the kitchen and the bathrooms and promised the wife that I would do them as soon as my shop went up... She is already hounding me about that. I plan on building the cabinets myself.

I am an insurance adjuster so when the spring storms start hitting I will be traveling and working around the country so I hope to get everything done before end of Feb or early March because likely will be out of town 4-5 months after that

Cat: here's what a restored Craftsman table saw looks like in case you need a good example. nice haul on those cabinets and looking forward to seeing what you do for the bench tops. some have used butcher block and 4 x 6's of old lumber.

here's a thread on putting old big lumber on top of metal cabinets in Jeremy's Hodgepodge garage so you can have an example. i'll add a couple pictures here on this thread so you have easy access.

Merry Christmas

Thanks.

I will be using the countertops that came with these cabinets however there will be many many feet of other cabinets that I plan on building myself with several different types of countertops depending on which wall of the shop they are on.

I do have access to a lot of rough cut lumber from the FIL. Cedar, oak and pine that I will be using a mixture of.

Thanks a lot.

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well

Here in the Chicago area, St. Charles, or Geneva cabinet sets can go for $500 - $1,500 depending on the number of the cabinets!

I've purchased 3 St Charles kitchens, and have shared the cabinets with friends. The cabinets are bullet proof and well worth the $$$. However, in many cases, the corner cabinets are not useable in a garage installation, as for the sink cabinet, sometimes they are just a cabinet front!

When I look at a kitchen set, I figure $35 for standard wall and base cabinets, TALL wall cabinets upwards of $75, 6' electric stove base, $50.

When you get them home get some simple green and expect to spend a weekend all the dirt and grims off of them!

Happy Shopping - AL

Great score. I got some metal upper cabinets as a free bee. And I really like them. Sell the sink section for what you paid for them. Or even more. Here's mine. I put a Riviera vinyl wall decal after a fresh coat of white paint. (I have a '65 Riv)

I recently bought a set of Youngstown base cabinets with appears to be the same countertop.

Could you post a close-up of the laminate?

Catadj78,

Here's a close-up of the laminate on mine.

20151208-05.jpg

I believe it's made by General Electric and the laminate was called Textolite. This pattern looks like something they called Regent.

Best regards,

Scott

Finally got the cabinets sanded/painted and installed. I had 1 leftover upper and lower cabinet. Used the upper in the 2nd pic.
