Old military tool mummies

I’ve been cleaning out my shop a little bit and found these. 1954 would probably be my dad not my grandfather. But who knows.

For reasons, I can’t remember. I think it’s a tool set for an old army jeep. Dad had an old Willy. And both him and his father bought surplus stuff after they discharged.

Does anybody know? I can provide more pictures of helpful.

Repackaging date of 1954 is very consistent with wartime tools.

It's a toolkit for a very late war or possibly immediate postwar genset made by Onan.

Jeeps did not have 7/16" x 1/2" DOE wrenches. Dodge had that size, but no vehicles under 2-1/2 tons had a hex key set. The "Model OTC-45" marking was a major tell. And the part numbers are the kind that show up in very late 1945 manuals.

EDIT: Casting a wide net, I see! (I just saw your post on G503.com. I am Wingnutt on that forum. ) Someone more into gennies than me may be able to narrow it down more for you.

Does the OTC on the label refers to the Owatonna Tool Company? That would be appropriate, since OTC and Onan (now Cummins Onan) are both based in Minnesota.

I know the Cummins Onan plant has a small museum with a selection of the different gensets they've built over the years. It's been years since I was there but I'm pretty sure they had a WWII military example, I wonder if they would like to have the related toolkit?

Pretty sure it stands for "Open Transfer" something starting with C. I have never seen any mfgr but Onan use the functional term for the type of genset in its model numbering scheme.

I can't find any references for an Onan Model OTC-45, but here's a diagram and parts list for a couple other very similar toolkits for Onan Model OTC-**'s from Army manuals.
