I was recently given an old Miller Plazcut Jr. from my stepfather. It appears to have been made sometime in the mid 80's but is in good condition I haven't played with it much yet.

My big question is related to the torch head. It has a very basic head activated by pressing the tip on the metal to start the arc. This head does not have a standoff guard and does not seem to be compatible with any of the accessories out there. I have also read a few posts on other forums about how finding the consumables is difficult.

So does anyone know if I am stuck with this style head or are heads somewhat universal? the fittings are all simple male female connections. Pictures below:

How about a pic of your consumables. I'm guessing they're easier to find than you think.

I don't have pictures but after doing some more digging the consumables aren't hard to find Ex:http://weldingdirect.com/cpmiplzito.html

I guess the next question then becomes, am I at a disadvantage having the scratch start vs a trigger? There are metal standoff guards which I guess connect the circuit starting the arc so I guess I will see if one fits.

Yep, I've ordered consumables from them before with much success.

Yes, you are at a disadvantage, but I do not believe you will be able to retrofit a trigger torch to your machine, so there is not much you can do about it.
