OLD Modine Heater

Hello all,
I have a Modine 650S heater that came with the garage that I bought. It looks old and I can't find anything online about it. I have a propane tank ready to hook up to it and WITHOUT the tank connected and the power plugged in, the fan spins just fine and there is a noise coming from the thermostat/"brain" assembly. Any thoughts before I jsut try to hook up the gas and see if it fires up? I also know I need a pilot light. Any info would be great! Thanks.

Well to start off if there is noise comming from the unit then it has power of some sort going to it . Transformers dont humm if they dont have power . Question number 2 is are you sure its a propane unit ? There should be a model number on it somewhere that someone here might be able to decipher for you.

I know its been a long time on this thread, but I just corrected my original problem and wanted to post. The problem was simply user error. I have never worked with a heater like this so it was a learning experience. I simply had to hold down a push rod while manually lighting thew pilot light which is tucked pretty far in a corner (ended up using a match with some pliers). Hold for a minute and let go, as long as the power is on, the thermocouple should tell the system its ready to go and it fired right up. Thank you rick for getting back to me originally.

Thanks for coming back to update with your solution!

We have a bunch of modines and reznors in the greenhouse business - lots of heat, cheap, simple. We light them with a blowtorch, easy.

Actually a blowtorch makes a lot of sense. I'll try that next time. And I hate it when troubleshooting threads start and there's no solution posted. I wasn't about to let that happen here. Thanks for the tip.
