Okay so a friend of mine has a full set of snap on SAE sockets. Deep and shallow 6pt in practically new condition if not actually never used. They have the old scrip style stamp on them. He says I can have them for 200. Are they worth that ? I told him 150. What do you guys think ? I will try to get a picture or two up later.

Honestly, I've bought a lot of the older Snap On script sockets and tried to sell them and they pretty much seem to get a few bucks at most a piece. Can tell you more whenever we see pics though

The secondary market for SAE tools has crashed recently. If you're gonna buy them and flip them, you'll want to pay a lot less. If you're gonna use them go for it.

Recently I was at an estate sale where the asking prices for clean (albeit used) rails of Snappy SAE sockets were $50 short, $60 mid, and $65 deep and they took all weekend to sell.

May be different where you are, but the People Republik of Kalifornia is decidedly favoring the metric system.

My questions would be, what does the date code show their year of manufacture as, and when did Snap-on start incorporating Flank Drive into their sockets?

The early flank drive models should have the patent number stamped on the socket.

Only worth $100 I paid $150 for both sets of my metric new style. The new style is the ones worth the money I have a ton of old and bought alot for $1 or less but that's more luck than anything my sets my dad gave me are priceless though. They still work the same and are just as strong just not as shiney.

Make sure they're Flank Drive. At some point in time Snap-on was making sockets without Flank Drive, but that's going back a long ways.
