I must be getting old!

I have a few of those pencil sharpeners, in the office and shop.

They're just pencil sharpeners.

Something I've had around forever and just use. Like having a hand towel in the bathroom. No big deal.

It's hell when you get so old, that everything you have becomes "collectable".

I've got a Jupiter Model 1 from Germany made in the early 1900s. Sorry, no pics, but it's a thing of engineering and aesthetic beauty.

Any tips on sharpening the thing?

I have my family Boston KS hanging in my garage, still in use. I cannot remember when it was not in my childhood home, or Dad's shop....he was born in 1915.

We'll bring this thread back from the dead. A while ago I picked this pencil sharpener up at a garage sale. It's a Boston Champion mounted on a pretty hefty metal disk. The disk was painted battleship gray and pretty battered and the sharpener was only held on with 2 screws.

I figured it was time to resolve that issue. So I removed the 2 screws and found what I thought was a broken off screw in the third hole. I attempt to drill out the "broken screw" and determine that whatever is in the hole is VERY HARD - so it's either a broken off drill bit or a broken off tap. I give up after a while and break out the grinder to remove the paint. I like the look of the bare metal so I coat it with spar varnish - all I had in stock and cook it in my project toaster over at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Once it cooled off I replaced the foam on the bottom with green felt and re-attach the sharpener.

It's not truly vintage but I like it - and it sharpens wonderfully.

Mom mounted one in the utility room when i was in elementary school. So that make it about 40 plus years old. May have to sweet talk her out of it.

I've been looking for an old school pencil sharpener for years. finally found one and mounted it in the shop. the cheap electric ones have no power and give a crappy point. the one I found at a yard sale had the suction cup type base which I removed and drilled the base to screw to the wall...nothing like a good sharp #2 Ticonderoga. I buy boxes of pencils at back to school time when they are dirt cheap and spend the time to sharpen them all as soon as I get them home just for the smell.
