We had a mule and an old plow like that back in the early '50's. We were caretakers on a farm in Buford, SC while my father was stationed on Parris Island. He was a DI. One day, I think it was Sunday Dad took the mule and all the needed gear out into this field and spent several hours plowing that field with the mule. When he was done and after putting the mule away he came into the house and Mom asked him, "Honey is there something wrong with the tractor? Why did you spend all afternoon plowing that field with the mule?" Dad said, "Oh nothing wrong with the tractor but the mule has been feeling depressed from lack of anything to do. So he feels better now."
I was very young, maybe 3, but I remember this like it was yesterday for some reason.
