I have repurposed lots of obscenely expensive military and govt surplus to functional items. I have acquaintances who do something similiar with "junk" and "recyclables " of a more conventional source. I know artists who work with "found" materials. I have a day job. I could not afford literally thousands of dollars for components to experiment with. I found a pennies on the dollar alternative.
You will get praise in an abstract and save-the-planet fashion. In the practical, routine, day to day, you will be judged, ridiculed, and despised. And, yes, it will be by the exact same people, who are members of organizations at direct opposite functions. Go figure.
I hide my projects. Learn to do something similiar. People are astounded by the finished product. They despise the source material. But, publicly claim something different.
You would expect I would hide one and embrace the other. Truth is, I despise both. I buy the HF paint guns and make everything look new. I do not post photos. No social media. Joining this site is a fluke. If I had a better feel for lighting and efficient use of storage and space, I would not have signed up.
