Old Proto Rollaway, Looking for Lock

Hi,
First post here.
I don't know if this is the right section, as this is probably a late 70s, early 80s box.
The slot where the lock goes is about .530" x .810"
It appears to be a push in style lock.
I can't post any photos yet, as I've not a high enough post count.
But I'm trying to find a lock for this. Proto can't help without a model number, which I can't seem to find on the box itself.
Hopefully someone out there can point me in the right direction.

I can't help you with your lock, but you should be able to post pictures. When posting just scroll down to "manage attachments" and then upload your picture. That has worked for me and I don't have many posts yet either.

Yes. It appears the lock would be oval. I assume it would be like a file cabinet lock.

Its the only one I know how to use.
Although, the watermark kinda ticks me off, since I actually pay them for hosting.

Welcome Greg. You can directly post your images here on the GJ site. Use the "Go Advanced" button and then use the paperclip button to attach the images. Photobucket is a dinosaur from the past that most people are glad to leave there.

Someone got a little crazy with a drill on your box. Those holes are there from the previous owner's custom lock setup. You can buy a generic oval lock set but it will only work if you can get the rod assembly inside back together.

They did. When there was a night shift at my old job.
The original lock got drilled out probably in the early 2000s, when the gal that used that box got laid off.
It’s been passed around the company to various employees since then.
Well, the factory shut down in January of this year, and I was given both this roller, and the Proto top box that went with it.
I intend to take this box to my new job, (if they ever let us back in, that is) I have no need for my Kennedy full of precision tools, but I am going to need a few things. Hence, I’d really like to be able to lock it up.
Any guesses as to even what model it might be?
The flat bar just next to where the lock would go pushes backwards, and raises the locking plate to engage the rear of the drawers.
And it looks like the tab with the rectangular hole is what the lock might engage when the box is locked.
I’m not totally sure how the lock needs to interface with the locking bar, as those parts were missing. Might be as simple as a bolt the screws into the side of the lock itself.

I believe those boxes were made by Waterloo. I restored a couple of them, different brands, but all basically identical and had waterloo send me matching lock sets. Since then they've been acquired by Stanley Black and Decker. They may still be able to help with replacement locks 860-225-5111 or http://www.waterlooindustries.com/

I have an old Craftsman tool box with the same lock, most likely Waterloo.

I'd try finding the Craftsman part number, Sears used to have an unbelievable amount of parts for the things they sold, not sure it's still the same with all their troubles but worth a try.

Maybe a file cabinet lock would work.

Sorry, I had to wait until I went back to the shop because my computer at home doesn't have a memory card reader. Anyhow I pulled out a few drawers and took some pictures, most of them didn't come out because of the lighting (to bright with the flash, dark without it).

Interesting it is just a cotter pin connecting the bar to the lock.
Does the lock itself have some kind of hook at the rear that engages the tab hanging down?
I’m assuming if it does, it must extend through the spring.
