Old round tape measure

Found this in a toolbox. Seems like would make for a nice pocket tape due to its shape. The spring doesn't have much rewind power. I turned it a few more turns and it didn't have an effect. Any tricks to give the spring more power?

I need to have a Stanley Pi tape. It was small and round like yours, hardly knew it was in your pocket.

Can you pre-load it a turn before attaching the tape / setting it on center?

I’d love to have one of these in 8’ or 12’. I keep a tape in my pocket when I’m at work but I’ve ran across many times I’d like to have one when I’m out and about.

I had one like that, I pulled it apart. The tape and spring got a good cleaning then I waxed them, didn't want any oil in there gumming things up. The insides of the body got the same treatment. Then when I reassembled everything I made sure to give it a few more rolls checking the tension and making sure the spring didn't bind up with the tape only halfway out. It's not perfect but it's a heck of a lot more usable now than it was before.

I really like that. Stanley just came up with a limited edition round tape this year, and it has become my go to in the woodshop. It fits in my hand really nicely.
