I just lost a bid in ebay for a 1/2" SK ratchet like this. It sold for 42.00 plus shipping!

How much do you think this will go for? I have only seen one other 1/4" "Artisan" like this for sale anywhere. Just how rare are these? Wanna sell me yours?

I've never seen one like that. When I saw the thread title I figured you were talking about a 40970 with the "diamond" logo or maybe an S-K Wayne - those generally go on Ebay for right about $20 bucks.
I wouldn't be surprised by the $42 selling price - I've seen 2875 Indestro 1/4" drive sockets get up into that neighborhood. Ebay buyers are nuts sometimes.

I just bought an artisan for 33.00. I wish it said S-K, but not worth that money. I have a 1/2 artisan also. I guess I will have to keep an eye out for a 3/8 artisan. Thanks anyway Augustus.

The beaver tail ratchets in s-k are hard to come by the 1/2 usually bring $40. I am not surprised by the sale price I was watching it on eBay. Ricky Joe if he backs out in the ratchet I would certainly be interested to fill a hole in my collection

Nice, I have a Mac 3/8 version of that ratchet, but I think it's a keeper. The action is super smooth, smoother than my SK 3/8 knurled handles. Even edges out my vintage 60s roto by a hair.

You should try to find a Kane ratchet, they were another brand made by SK, and apparently not common.

3/8 "Chrome Alloy"
3/8,1/2 Mac Sabina
1/2 Western Giant (boattail handle)

There are also "Tiger Tools" versions I do not have

Read somewhere the Atrisan styles may have been the first patented fine tooth ratchets but no clue if thats true. ill be looking for a Mac as well.

Is that yellow handle a Kraeuter? What's up with the selector?

It is marked S-K although it is Kraeuter shaped. I am just guessing, but, I think it may have been an insulated version for the power company with an oversized selector that could be switched while wearing gloves?

Hey can anybody help me here? Picked up an Artisan 4270 1/2" drive and needs a rebuild, and I'm not sure which kit I need.

I don't think modern kits will fit it.. It's possible an old SK Wayne kit would do it but not positive. It would most likely need the cap with the thin knob.

Look for an SK Wayne ratchet 42470 to see what I mean. There were changes over the years.

I have an SK marked, 3/8 that belong to my Grandfather. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

I always thought this style was called a "boat tail". Anyone else ever heard it called that???

None of these are for sale, though I should probably weed out the couple of doubles at some point. I don't see it in this photo, but I also have an SK 1/4 like in the OP, and there is also a "ChromeAlloy"(Brazil Tools) 1/4 in the little box in the lower left corner. The 1/4 in the Artisan/boat tail/beaver tail style doesn't seem to come up as often on ebay, so they tend to get snatched up quick and/or go for stupid amounts of money.

Dang it! Having trouble figuring out how to post a picture from Google photos.

Screw google! Here is a lower quality image that I uploaded here...

What is the 3rd from to bottom right hand side. The inlay is filled in on the handle. Never seen that before.

I really like those old SK ratchets but dang, for the money? I'll just have to keep plugging along with my 1980s modeled gear!

r_olson_06: That is a 3/8 "Western Giant", also marked "Chrome Alloy". I have seen other WG marked ratchets that look like the Artisan ones, but this is the only one I have seen with that handle style. Maybe they just decided to skip a couple of steps in the forging process on a Friday afternoon. I have pictures posted in the SK section on twertsy's website if you want a better view.
