Neat!

What's the voltage on the ID plate? Can't read it in your pix, but it looks like neither 12 nor 6.

110 for input ..no output voltage but does say. 3 cell. So assume 6 volt wonder what lightbulb is for? To show that it's on?

Google tungar rectifier for more info.

I think an ordinary light bulb is screwed in instead of a Tungar bulb which needs a single wire clipped to the outside top terminal.

Then again this unit might have already been Hot-Rodded internally as it is unusual to see a pair of output leads and a pair of screw terminals.

YMMV

I, too, have never seen what sure looks like the diode and voltage taps on the outside. It almost looks inside out. Very bizarre. And I agree with humber that it might have been modified. Then again that mounting plate looks well done, so who knows. If I were you I would search Google Books (not Google) on 'Sears Meteor Battery Charger' to see if you can find an ad that shows what they looked like. And if you want to see learn more about and see examples of other diode rectifiers, in general, click on the 'Battery Charger' links in the Index in the Sticky.

Meteor is one of the real old Sears brands. Ran through the catalogs I do have and found one Meteor branded item around 1928, but not that particular charger.
