Perhaps this should be in the vintage forum but I think it may be of more general interest.

Ran across across a new old stock set of SKIL branded auger bits. The set contains two shanks and four different size auger heads. I haven't used them so I have no idea of how well they work. I'm guess these are from the late 1970s as they don't have a barcode and they also have the number 79126 printed on the back, which could be a date for the printed material. Today, making something like this would likely cost more than producing four individual bits. The text on the packaging seems to imply that 12 sizes of auger heads are available separately but that's not completely clear as it says "see your SKIL dealer."

I suppose something like this set appealed to a frugal user figuring they could get replacement cutting heads for less than buying a completely new bit.

Hope you enjoyed this bit of SKIL product history.

Pretty sure Dad had one or two of these.

They were dull. Not sure if that's from use or they came that way.

Spade bits, not auger bits, but what do marketing people know about Archimedes? Seen a few running about at garage sales, didn’t want to buy.

Why do you say that? Looks like regular spade bits, except the heads are interchangeable.
I read laminates and plaster among other things listed. I missed wood, which was first. I wondered if the geometry might be different from normal spade bits.
