How small? And how old? I've seen several on ebay that were almost army green, and I've got one that color.

I believe Merk is incorrect. I know the mid 1940's 3/8 sets were in a gray color. It seems they changed to red at the same time they changed to the newer style handle which was around late 1947 or 1948. I think the 1/4 sets would have been gray also, probably all the small boxes around the same years were. Chad or snapmom will have more info.
Here is an old thread that has a gray box in it.

These very small red boxes, started in the mid to late 40s. However the Carb. boxes and some of the big cabs were red starting in about 1938. Here is the General rule, Emerald Green is early to mid 20s, Black late 20s to early 30s. Gray early 30s to mid 40s. Dark Gray green early 40s. This is the gereral rule and there are some exceptions.
