I found this neat old Snap-On set at an estate sale that I couldn't leave without. I was hoping someone could tell me about how old it is and if anything it's worth. Sorry for the cellphone quality photos.

Thanks for posting that. It looks like most of the set is date coded '52 with a few pieces from '51 and 57' and the ratchet being the oldest from '47. Kind of interesting, one of them has a '52 date code stamped over the '51 date code. Hopefully you can see that in the photo.

Huh, I wonder how that happens. I'm assuming that originally every part in the kit had the same date code and things got replaced as they were lost. How much is a set like this worth? I thinks it's cool as hell and worth the 30$ I paid. Just think of all the things that were wrenched on with them the past 50 years...

Not as old, but I found the exact same set a while back. It was a cousin's of my Grandfather. Back in '96 or so they brought out their camper to store there for 3 weeks. Well time passed and he passed away. So in '13 Pa starts cleaning it out because its full of all their stuff. For the first time in all those years I rumage threw it and find the tool drawer. Found this set and few other goodies like a Williams 8" adjustable.

ratchet reads "Midget" (9/32" drive)

it looks very mis-matched

I had no idea that's what the "Midget" marking meant. But I did try it with my SK 1/4 sockets and they fit the snap on ratchet fine. Does a 1/4" repair kit fit this ratchet?

I do agree the set seems to have been put together and added to over the years.

Date codes are not always the same for an entire set. I have a set of 1/2" drive square sockets I bought in 1962 but the sockets are date stamped from 1958 to 1962. They were probably a low demand tool so they would not run an economically sized lot very often.

I bought them because I worked for a Massey Ferguson dealer and had to assemble new implements that were all done with square nuts and square head bolts in those days.
