So I am not a big Snap On fanatic, but I ended up with this through someone at work. Not sure if I'm going to hang on to it or not. I like that it's old, but it is a little small What year would this be from? Is this consider a top chest or was it just a stand along little box? Sorry for the cruddy photo.

I'll buy it if you want to sell.

I dunno yet. Kinda interested in knowing a bit about it. I know Snap On fans always have a lot of neat knowledge about this stuff.

What is the drawer configuration? Looks kind of like a KRA 58, from the late 50s to the late 60s. If you do decide to part with it I'd definitely be interested.

When I get some time this weekend I will drag it out and take some better photos. I had been meaning to for a few weeks and things just got busy. Figured I'd start a thread while being lazy tonight.

Wow, in less than 40 min. you have a offer to buy it.

That's all well and good, but I just want to know about it. For now I have the space for it. I just know Snap On folks seem to have all this crazy information on them. It reminds me of something you'd put on a truck the way that lid comes down over the drawers. If I wanted to sell it, it would go in the appropriate column some day, but not now.

Okay here are some pics and specs. It is 26" wide by 24" deep. The drawers are pretty cool because they are divided out. I am thinking about lining it and using it as a truck mount in the back of my work pickup under the tonneau (sp?) cover. Only change i can see is that the lock cylinder is seized up and no key, so I'll have to work on that. It has a cool old Chevrolet stickeron it.

I forgot one picture...there are two long bottom drawers, then the two rows of small one left and right, and three small center.

It's hard to tell from your pix for sure but it looks like a KRA-58. There should be a stamping on the back with the model number and year. Early 60's to early 70's if its a 58.

Date and model number will be stamped in the back from mid sixties on. Older then that, i don't think the had the stamp.

Junk_man,,,,,,,,,,how many do you want?:bounce:

Pretty sure I have 3 or more similar boxes in stock

Larry-g, have to disagree with you on being a machinist box not that it wouldn't work as one. That style has mainly been sold to mechanics for decades. Also, much deeper then a standard machinist top box.

Interesting on that possibly being a machinists box. I've never known much about machinists other than they make parts for us sometime. I know their boxes are smaller, but what is the purpose?

I really like the way it was divided up. It needs a little love for the lid to latch even. Not a big deal if you know auto body, same idea.

I like the patina on it, I'd probably leave it be. I like the way the drawers are divided out and they pull really smooth. I'm thinking I may clean it up with degreaser and run it for a while. At the very least, it would be good to hold some of my finer tools for model trains and electronics. i'll leave the big diesel stuff in the big box.

Wouldn't put it in the truck bed, unless you don't care about it. Tools bouncing around beat them to death quickly.

Here's a pic of my KR-58 manufactured in 1957. Is there a difference between KR-58 and KRA-58? The OP's looks about the same as mine except my small drawers are L to R 3,2,1 and his are L to R 2,3,2.

AVMaine, that's identical to the '66 model KRA58 I'm working on. Look in the back, and you'll find the model and date stamped, similar to evintho's, but much fainter. Also probably higher and closer to the right side of the box

As I understand it. KR stood for Kenosha Red. I believe these boxes were manufactured for them, likely by MBC. When they opened their Algonquin factory and started building them themselves, they added the A in the model #.

A wealth of info to be gleaned over on Collectingsnapon.com.

Cool thanks I will check it out tonight. I am not one of the huge nuts for it, but I like certain pieces and like any tool, if something is a good deal, I'll grab it up.

So it is a KRA-58B made in 61. Pretty cool stuff! I think I'm starting to get why folks love these things.

Nice. I was told to try a lock that Home Depot sells, but I found it too short to engage the cam properly, so I took the old lock to a local locksmith, and he sold me one for $10 that should be just right.
