Old Snap On box

I am trying to find any information that I can get about this Vintage Snap On tool box. I bought it in 1968 for $45 in southeastern Wisconsin. The Snap On dealer I bought it from said that it was over 40 years old at that time and was made by Chicago Box Brake for Snap On because this was before they were building their own. He also told me that Snap On had their 50th anniversary coming up (1970) and that if I took the emblem off and sent it to them, they would give me $50. I elected to keep the emblem and am really glad I did.
Other than the emblem, there are no markings anywhere else. Top, bottom, front, back, inside or outside.
So, can anyone tell me what I have. By the way, I am not looking to sell this.

Hello DC6DRIVER and welcome to the forum!

That's a great old Snap-On chest for sure. Great story too. Someone more knowledgeable than me will come along soon and know everything about your chest. A couple more pictures would be cool too!

Cheers!

There is always the possibility that the dealer fed me a line of **** and this is just some random old box with a Snap On tag riveted on. If so, it's probably too late for me to return it.

Looks like an older Snap On drawer layout. Front panel is missing.
I think it's legit.
Let's see if anybody else has one like it

This is it exactly. Same layout inside the drawers. Mine is missing the original front panel and the plunger on the left that locks the front panel. I bought another lid that had the front panel attached and cut it to fit and then attached some projections to the bottom that fit into the slots down there. I also made a piece to slide down into the slot in place of the missing plunger to secure it. It still has the original lock although I would have to look for the key. I think that it's inside another tool box.

Thanks for the info. This means for sure that there is one more thing in my shop that is older than me. But not by much.

Anyone know any history on Chicago Box Brake Co making this Era of SO boxes?

Duplex was usually the manufacturer I've heard associated with these...
