Anyone know what years used that emblem?

Don't know what years they started but believe last year was around 81 or 82.

I paid $50 for the one I bought off e-bay. It was in fairly good condition. Bought two boxes for $250 and one was missing the emblem. Now I've got two, LOL...

Saw one go for about $40 that was in really poor condition. Surprised about that. Apparently they are in short supply and high demand...

Good luck!

The current one on ebay started at 200.00, the last 1 I bid on sold for 41.00. I offered him 46.00 for the emblem and shipping and sent him the info for the one that sold for 41. He declined my offer, feels it is worth 100.
I still need one but not that bad.

seems like a fairly easy part for someone to mold and recast. what do the backs of these things look like?

Back is just flat metal I believe. What would you cast them in? I'd like to learn how to do this!

They are flat but they do have a couple of studs sticking off the back of them.
You could skip the studs and adhesive them on if you wanted.

If you have one of the emblems, there are kits that you can make silicone molds and you could cast it in a low temp metal and that should be good enough to for what you want.
If you have access to someone with a CNC, you could machine up several billet ones that would be close enough and sell the extras to someone on eBay for too much money.
Another option is 3D printing a set up in black and paint the high spots silver

A real option is to buy two of the new snap on emblems and put those on

There are small aluminum foundries around that could duplicate that badge.

I will about guarantee those are not originally aluminum. They are pot metal/high zink die cast.
Melt at a lower temp and fills details better than aluminum

Pot metal can be melted at home

Those square emblems are now getting rare and kind of expensive. What's ever rarer are the old scripts prior from the prior series.

Adding a new one to your period piece of a toolbox just doesn't feel right.

Sure you can cast your own but I'd be very careful on selling those. You sell enough of them, they might just come after you.

I've restored a few, and they are definitely a zinc die casting.

If you know a friendly dental technician , they have access to lots of mould materials , then it's just a tidy paint job and bobs your uncle :)
