Personally I'd rather buy an old snap on box for $200 than a husky or taskforce that costs $200. I have a box from the 60's that will probably outlast me and im 31.

I thought we were talking a full size box. Yeah your brother got a bad deal IMO. I sold one in much better condition than that one there for $130.

got a pic of the side cab ? I bought one on CL for $50.00. It's in good shape but mounts from the back instead of the side.So the side mount faces the side of the tool box instead of the front. It kinda stinks when all of your boxes are lined up against the wall.

Sounds expensive - I paid $500 for the Bluepoint chest that's behind my dog that just scarfed up the 3/8 to 1/4" adapter I just dropped like it was a piece of chocolate. He looked like he was upset about it so I didn't yell at him too much. ;)

For comparison,

I just sold one like the pictures in post #3 for $250.

Mine was not bent, but has surface rust and was 'scruffy'

I originally bought it five years ago for about $80 full of miss matched old tools.

They seem to be continuously available in the $100 mark in on line auctions.

However.... If it is one of the wider, deeper ones with the chrome handles from this era.... I would call it a good deal.

But that is just my opinion,
Gregger

I have one just like in post #3 also - trying to decide if I should leave it as-is or if I should sand it up a bit and repaint it? Would repainting it hurt or help the value? I don't plan on selling it any time soon.

Yeah, I have the same question. It's a lot of work to repaint a box if you want the end result to look decent. I guess you can do an "American Restoration" job, -- you know the TV show, where somebody wants their childhood tricycle restored... for $2,500! Anything less than that will not be worth the effort. After a thorough cleaning inside and out, and repairs to all the mechanicals, I'd just leave alone.

I just sold a nice s o side box for $150, and a not so nice on for $112, plus the buyers had to pay $40+ for shipping. So he did ok if the side box was nice. I payed 175 for 6 boxes.

If you paid $200 for both items you did OK. Cheaper is always better, but the seven drawer box is old and has to have some collectability. It doesn't look all beat up. I rarely see that style box in my travels.
