Old Snap On Tool Box Locks

Some of my old tool box locks have been removed and there is just an empty hole where the lock belongs, and others, the keys are missing. Is there a place where replacement locks can be purchased reasonably. I did a quick count, and there are 12 lock holes, where the locks are missing or the keys have gotten lost. Ideally, I would like to have all the boxes keyed alike if possible. There is one box that has 3 locks in it, and all 3 have different key numbers, so just getting replacement keys for that one box is going to be about $7.50 x 3 = $22.50 (eBay seller), and then there are others that don't have locks at all. All suggestions are welcome.

I know they are becoming a lost profession, but you might look up a local locksmith. Not sure if he can help, but a thought

If they are all snap on, snap on can sell you 12 locks of the same number.
I did this at work for the training boxes.

Some non snap on boxes can use a snap on lock, other may not be able to

Are the locking mechanisms still in the boxes? If so I would go with SnapOn original locks as they will be a direct fit whereas an aftermarket fit all type of lock might be a direct drop in.

I know that my idea is less than ideal and certainly not quick but I will throw it out there for you none the less.

I have the same issue as you do with my boxes. Most don't have keys and the lock numbers are all different. What I do is pick up lock sets at the flea markets and then I taught myself how to rekey locks.

After some trial and a lot of error, I was able to figure out how these things work and now I can fix locks 75% of the time.

If you like to tinker with mechanical things, give it a shot. It's fun once you get the hang of it.

I took one out, and tried to take it apart, but it doesn't come apart. I think that you need the key in the lock, to release the pins to take the lock out of the barrel.

Your Snap-On dealer can help you out. I bought a new bottom box 12 years ago and then bought a new "ROUND" type key lock that matched my bottom for my Rick Mears top box that my father bought for me used back in 1983.
