I am not sure if this is an appropriate thing to ask, so please let me know if not! After cleaning it up the best I could with the advise and tips from some members here, I plan on listing this Snap-On toolbox on CL. I wanted an opinion from everyone here as to the value of it. I cannot find any vintage boxes around here (San Antonio) to compare it to so I don't know what my market value would be. I cannot find a model # on it. Can anyone give me a fair value. As you can see this box could use a restoration, but it operated properly and the glides work great. I do not have a key. Dims are 18" deep 34" wide and 37" high from the ground. Any opionions are appreciated.

As you can see the bottom right is a little rough, a couple of dings on the corners.

I would list at $450. Antiques are generally worth quite a bit of money. Snap-on as you know has made quite a name for itself and should be worth quite a bit just for the name. Of course you wont get $450 for it but start there.

I could see list at 400-450 and expect to get talked down to 300 or so. I've never seen one with the cover. Sweet. I keep a pretty good eye on CL for Snap-On boxes around here.

Well, If you mean the top, I used the same thick material on the top as I did in the inside of the bottom. Thanks for the opinion, I did a little look around the country on CL and found a couple of good ideas as well, so i'm getting a good idea of a listing price. Hopefully some more suggestions will come along.

IMO, looking around the country on CL isn't much help unless you are a masochist. For example, Wichita is one of the highest markets for SO boxes I've seen. I can't get a Masterforce box for what some have paid for a SO.

That is an interesting SO box to me. You might try the "classifieds" here, although I don't know how much traffic it gets.

Dave, not inclined to pay more than about $100 for that box though.

Ask 450. Take no less than 300.

A fellow GJ in the south had a similar box that sold for 250 with one phone call and he was bummed he didn't ask more.

It's a kra 300 Rolla Bench (Snap on name). 1960's era.

Those are good solid boxes, but there seems to be a fair number of them around from the government surplus auction sites available to law enforcement / fire department / first responder organizations. They were evidently popular with the military - with no chance that the drawers would pop open during transit.

Cool boxes and that's a fairly clean one - I would venture a guess at $150 to $200 in the SA area. Everyone is looking for ball bearing slides - making the greased runners less valuable, even though they are perfectly adequate for the DIY crowd such as myself.

So with San Antonio being such a huge Militarty town, why can I never find anything like this here in San Antonio. i would think like you said, with the military coming and going here, i would see these pop up ever so often, but I have no luck finding well made old stuff here in SA!! I am getting a good feel though for what I am going to take on the Box. would prefer someone here to take it off my hands as I know it would go to someone that would take care of it.

I would ask 500 personally. And take no less than 400. You will regret selling it for less and also that box looks to be somewhat rare with the slide like that, very cool design

Sounds high to me. I would say no more than $200. Used tool boxes pop up from time to time at great prices, steals really. Anybody that wants a vintage tool box will hold out for a good price.
If you love it keep it ,if not i wouldn't try to screw a guy to the wall over it. Maybe I'm to nice.

IMHO

seems to me that there are a lot of people who put a high value on the kr300 series of boxes.
they were kinda innovative at the time, even when they were still available new, they didnt seem to be real popular.
from what i've seen the full drawer optioned boxes are more sought after.

I bought the identical box at the Portland Swap meet four years ago for a cool $100..... and it included the original Snap On optional 3 lower drawers. I was also the top bidder on ePay last November for the 1939 version of this (Identical except for the name plate). It didn't have the extra 3 drawers but did include the matching 7 drawer upper chest (the 32 inch wide x full depth unit with chrome handles)). I was top bidder at $200, but didn't make the reserve. He offered it to me for $500 and I'm still negotiating lower. (If he was local I would have jumped on it for $500)

That Said..... I would happily pay $300 for yours if you were local to me. So I agree with the others here, list it for $450 and work your way down.

Hope this helps,
Gregger

He's talking about the roll down front cover. If it is indeed a real snapon there should be a model number on it on the back or maybe the side. I had one very similar to that but a bit newer and I sold it for $200. If you get more than $200 i would say you did well.

I own one, Gov. surplus, $100 box with keys, electric outlet and jumper cord, less without all the goodies.
I occasionally see one on CL for ~$100.

They are a sweet box and built like a tank, but I think you'll be looking for a long time for a not so savvy $4-500 buyer.
