I found this valve adjusting tool yesterday, i know its old maybe from the 30's. Its missing the other parts, except for a 9/16 socket. Im not sure if the socket is Snap-on, id like to know. If anyone knows anything more about this tool, let me know. Oh yeah i gave the guy 10 bucks for it.

Yikes. Sorry, that wasn't supposed to be insulting. I was just saying that I'm not that bright but would still like to try my hand at identifying that.

This is a 20's era valve adjusting tool, but the center screwdriver shaft and knurled hand wheel is missing. The "7" stamped on it is somewhat similar to a 1937 date code, however, it is much to big, and doesn't match actual examples of a 37 date code very well. I have never seen one of these that was date coded, and if it was a 20's 1927, it would be a smaller, less stylized 7, marked as "-7". Most likely, as with the file marks on the tool, the 7 is an owners identification marking.

Thanks Chad s, can you tell if the socket is snap on or from some similar tool.

Im 95% sure the socket is snap on. I dont have any valve adjuster tool sockets (hex drive instead of square) in my collection that are this early, my oldest are early 30's, however the 9/16 stamping is the correct size and typeset for snap on 1920's era sockets, especially from around 1923-25 era.

Too bad it didnt have all of the sockets with it, i think it came with four sizes originally. Thanks for the info.

The sockets are very hard to find, the adjusting tool is common. Keep an eye out for a complete adjusting tool, they can be had for around $10-15 on ebay with no socket present.
