Ok, got a question that I cannot find the answer to so I will ask the group. I have an old KR-558 that I am about to send off to powder coating and I have an issue before I can do it. The handle on the box is damaged beyond repair and I need a replacement or something built. The rubber that goes over the ends is broken up also and I have been unable to find good replacements for those old handle ends.

So, does anyone have any ideas about a replacement handle – I would have been able to build one when I worked in the machine shop but I have moved and have no access to the tools anymore. I could do something like an aluminum bar but I am unsure that would look very good.

Should I build one?
I would pay for one to be built.
Does someone have something they have built that I could copy?
Is there a newer handle from SO or other tool box makers that will fit that toolbox? (I have looked but the ones on the website do not give dimensions)

I can powder coat the handle at the exact same time so I am not worried about anything other than fitting the old toolbox.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Well if it's the box I am thinking of those ends are long gone and I need one too.
The handle would be easy to copy out of rectangle tube and then powder coat to match.

If it were me I would order a new fancy handle I liked from snap on and make it work. If you are going to powder coat the box then you can weld up existing holes and make new ones as you need before powder coating.

Ok so that seems expensive....and it is...
So the next option to me would be to get some of the handles from the 41" harbor freight boxes. Those are nice handles. I would grind off the little general name they have in the recess and fill that recess with red paint to cover what you did. If you want to be fancy you could cover the grinding with a little snap on label you make and pour a clear resin over it to imbed a decal/emblem so to speak and you may even be able to make it look original.

Well so you don't like that idea eh?
So go down to the local home depot or lowes and get a couple of those handicapped grab bars. You can bolt them on as is with the existing flange or you can be slick and knock that flange off and weld a plate hidden in the end of the tube and weld a nut in that plate. Then bolt the handle on from the inside. Powder coat the handle red or black as you may want. If you get a stainless handle and can do the TIG work you can just polish the handle back up and put it on....slick
