Old Squirrel Tail Plane

Hello,
I think this is called a squirrel tail block plane, but there are no markings (or worn/rusted off). Can anyone confirm this? Measures 6.25" Thank you.

Yes, that is a squirrel tail plane.. Clean it, sharpen the blade, and use it I find them rather handy

P.S. I should have added ... old Stanley... were they the first? I think this one is fairly old.

Nice, unique piece, first I have ever seen. Could the blade placed backwards to protect it while in extended storage?
