Hi,

I am looking for an old push button switch for a project. Something like the attached photo.

If anyone has one around that they would be willing to part with, let me know.

Unfortunately I don't have one to offer, but that brings back memories of some real old shop equipment I used to use and love. When you source one, please share your project.

That looks like a switch for a powermatic drill press. Search e- bay, i've seen some parts for those there.

A picture of the back and ratings would be of some help. Also is it a momentary contact or held? There may be a few variations of that switch that look the same. Can you use something else that functions the same or must it be that style?

It would be a momentary contact I would think, since it has a stop button. If you had to hold the button, there would not be much use for a second button.

I do need one that looks to be of this vintage. Red/black or red/green buttons are fine.

I will be using for a light load, so no huge restriction there.

Let me check, I may have two. The ones I took off my mill (AB I believe)were real similar. I'll shoot you a PM in a couple of hours.

edit - do you need the switches to fit a cover like in your pic? If so, what size are the buttons? I haven't gone out to the garage yet, but here's a pic of what I have.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I need a switch like the one I posted that would be used with a surface mount box, or set into the machine.

The closer to the image I posted, the better.

Thanks,

Adam

It is an Art Deco Cutler Hammer momentary push button switch. Head on over to www.owwm.org and look in the BOYD. You can also fut WTB add and someone will have what you are looking for. They come up for sale quite often but they also sell pretty fast. That switch came on Powermatic 1150 and 1200 drill presses but could be also found on many other wood working machinery from the 1940's to the 1960's.

Good luck

Here's a bit of useless trivia. That Cutler-Hammer switch was designed by Brooks Stevens, one of the great industrial designers of all times, who also designed the 1962-64 Studebaker GT Hawk.

Minor correction - a momentary switch usually has only one button. Hold it down, it does one thing. Release it, it does the other, depending on whether it is a momentary on or momentary off. There are also two-button momentary up/down and forward/reverse switches, but those are labeled as such. The one shown is a true On-Off switch to start and stop electric motors on power tools. Push ON, the motor starts and runs until OFF is pushed.

And finally, I have that exact switch, but it is going to stay on my Delta band saw.

Ya'll act like that's some kind of rare antique but Cutler Hammer still makes switches like that, with maybe a plainer cover plate. I just installed one identical to the OP's pic on my air compressor as a cutoff for the mag starter coil.

Here's a similar one NOS on eBay for $6 + S/H:

edit: that one has the buttons marked high/low but they're out there.
