Yep, here goes another.

After I was able to clean it enough to where you won't get tetanus by just coming in contact with it, I snapped a few shots for you guys to view. So here's the skinny.
Purchased at auction today and I want to restore, or atleast bring it back to usable condition. So basically I want to know,
A) wutisit?
B) Easiest method to remove drawers.
C) Where I can find more info on the box.

It's supposed to have one of those folding covers in front. (Sorry for the lack of sophisticated terminology)

Note tool tray is missing from center.

Note the curved corner of the top.

After scanning through the Vintage Toolboxes of GJ thread I saw that it was similar to a couple Huot boxes and a Craftsman box. Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks

I'm thinking it may be an old Proto, but that's just a guess. Hard to answer your question about the drawers w/o seeing the slides, but assuming those are typical friction slides, a long, thin screwdriver should do the trick.

As for more info...here's as good a bet as anywhere! :)

Thanks guys. I'll get pics of the slides later. I would try to explain them but I'm pretty sure that's impossible without sounding retarded. And I'm not sure about it being the original top or not. As I said, I got it at auction. They didn't know squat.

You need one of these...the smaller one should do the trick. Insert it inside the slide and pull the drawer to get it past the stop so you can remove it.

I found a picture of my old box. The body of the box and the slides are a lot like the ones on yours. The lid on yours is more rounded than on the one I have.

It looks similar to my 40's Craftsman branded box.

Another GJ member's box of similar vintage:

It's similar, but not exactly the same.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'm going to have to assume that it's a transplant box and the top is Craftsman.

I did get the drawers out, but how do I get the slides out from the box? Thanks.

It's still a guess at this point as I haven't seen a top compartment like yours under a Craftsman name.

The slides should come out using the same method used to take out the drawers. You just need to approach it from the rear end.

I meant the cap is Craftsman as no other box I've seen has the curved edges. I've seen similar snap on boxes as mine, but not the same number of drawers. Thanks for the info on the slides, it worked like a charm.
