Anyone know what this is? The wedge / part on the end unscrews from the body, looks like a splitting wedge?

Anyone ever seen one before or know if it came off of a larger piece?

Thanks

Looks like one of those goofy ideas from somebody that thought they had a "better mousetrap".

Kinda looks like a dual use axe/wedge. That square hole on the one end looks like it would accept a handle.
For smaller logs one could swing it with the handle and use the small axe on the end. For bigger pieces you'd remove the handle and use the big mid section with a sledge hammer.:dunno:

I think that was sort of a "captive wedge" splitting system.
There was a heavy steel base with a vertical piece of square tubing the wedge slid up and down on.

Looks like an adze multi-tool, with the caulking iron attachment.

Is the square "eye" on the outer end of that casting tapered on the inside?
If it's tapered I'd think it's made to fit a wooden handle (like an adze.)
That doesn't make much sense, though, because swinging that huge piece of iron on the end of a wooden adze handle would be a pretty cumbersome task.

If it's not tapered, jakemac's suggestion above makes more sense; that it's designed to slip over a square steel shaft/tube and is some part of a device designed for wood splitting.
