Old torque wrenches + multimeter question

Looking around craigslist, saw and add for old snap on QJR torque wrenches.
Spent a little time on google, and I believe they are from the 80s.

My main question is, as long as it is calibrated, they should work fine, correct, this is snap on we are talking about.

Also is there an online resource to see the specs of old torque wrenches, such as if the are accurate form 20-100% things like that.

I have also hear rumor that snap on trucks can check if a wrench is calibrated, is this true, and how does it work.

Random question. Also saw a fluke 187 for sale. Have also been looking for a nicer multimeter. I know the recommended automotive multimeter by most is the 88, but will a 187 work as well?

Also, any info on where one can get a torque wrench calibrated in the chicago area would be appreciated

I tried searching, but I keep getting a cannot display page on my web browser

If you just need a DVOM, the 187 will be fine. The 88 has some automotive testing functions built into it. As long as the torque wrench is calibrated, it should work fine. You may want to check SO website for accuracy or someone in GJ has an old SO catalogue that can give you an answer.

IMO, buying a used tq wrench is high risk money. they are relatively fragile as far as hand tools go, and even a single drop onto concrete can get them way out of whack. if you need a level of precision higher than lug nuts, i'd pass on a used torque wrench.

I have a couple of Torque wrenches, 2-SO, Craftsman, & HF.. I check them against each other by tightining a 3/4" bolt & nut clamped in a vise. They are all within 4% of each other. years ago I use to have them calibrated, now check them myself. If you only have one, how do you know it is correct, even if you had it tested last week. Yet to have an engine explode due to a torque issue.
