Got this Vise last night for $40! There is no brand cast into it anywhere other than the letter "A" in several places. I plan on cleaning this up and repainting. It has a silver/gray machine paint on it underneath.

Anyone have any insight on what it is? I like the offset 8" width jaws.

Got a little more disassembly done and found out its a Sambre Meuse 62 (8 or B). It has 8" wide jaws so it might be an 8.Few old posts on here about them, seems to be little information on them in general. All of them i've come across are smaller than mine. I'll keep ya posted, I plan to do a proper clean up and paint. It will look good next to my little 4" chase parker.

Hello. I see this is an old post but I have been searching for information on my vice and I found this forum and your post. I have what I believe is the exact vice you have here. Do you know any more information about it? Value?

Sambre et Meuse was a high end French vise manufacturer.
My understanding, is that another French Vise manufacturer, Dolex, purchased the brand.
The jaw shape and anvil on the current Dolx vises looks similar to that Sambre et Meuse vise,
The slide on the dynamic jaws is different.
The French term for vise/vice is “Etau” or “etaux” so if you google “Sambre et Meuse Etaux” and do an image search, you can find pics and french website forums that mention the manufacturer.
This is the website for Dolex.

I’m not sure that Dolex still offers offset jaw vises, they did maybe 10 years ago, but I think those may gave been welded steel Asian imports.
This website shows the vise with the offset jaws.
