Hey everyone!

This is a property that I dreamed of owning from nearly the first time I visited it... To me it oozes character and I have become very good friends with the gentleman that owned it!

I'm in Melbourne Australia and I will be updating this build regularly but it will be very slow to get started due to not finalizing exactly what I want to do with it... I'm sure Ill get my ideas from in my head to paper by posting pics here and I am interested in any suggestions what so ever...

I'm an automotive enthusiast and have a large collection of cars which Ill accommodate some of here...

Where's the info? Im really into this, its exactly like my place in the UK.(about same size too) What I call a 'real building'-a distinct lack of 'flat panel wood,**** metal cladding, false stood walls etc-bring it on with this build,im waiting for future/any info.

Just take it like you'd eat an elephant - one bite at at time. You have the bones of a killer shop and can make it any way you want. Even if you don't know right now... Ditto on the character!

You have our admiration (and envy). And if you can't find it here, you don't need it!

Welcome.

Looks like you can have some serious fun there.

Great to become friends with a previous owner, as it helps you understand and find out more about what the building did before.

Man, what a find. Developers grabbing up all the cool warehouse style stuff for big $$$ apartments now. Whereabouts in Melb?

Certainly one to watch :)

Nice score on the property! This should be a great thread to watch. Please keep the pictures coming as you work on the place.

That's awesome. I'd LOVE to have a space like that. I'd take everything out and rent a sandblaster to "whip blast" the brick clean. Whip blast meaning not remove ALL the patina, just the penetrated dirt & grime; it leaves some of the paint. Then I'd paint those structural beams a dark green. Doll it up with vintage automobilia stuff. NOT the artificial reproduced stuff. I like that stuff but not for a place like this. ITs gonna be fantastic! Hell, it's fantastic already. It's gonna be BETTER than fantastic

Hey everyone,

Yes its in Melbourne.

Not much to report as work has been so very very busy... Its a good thing and has left me with lots of ideas to try and pluck out of my head and put down on paper...

I'm planning on getting started on this in about June and also to have a lot of the plans on the way I intend to build it down on paper and a stage by stage plan of attack :D

Yes it has but in the mean time I have opened another cafe and thats really quite exceptionally busy... The old guy moving out was slower then a turtle with a cold :)

I'm a bit of a procrastinator but once I start actually doing the job I always finish it before starting something else and I must say I always do my absolute best work

That is EXACTLY the sort of building I've been thinking about finding/using. I also thought it would be cool to put a small stage on one end, to invite friends over for small concerts (I've done live sound for about 30 years and have most of the stage equipment you would need).

I also want to build an 'isolation room' in there...a place to bang on sheet metal, without bothering others...which would also be a great place to record music (reducing outside noises too).

Way Cool project...looking forward to seeing where you go with this!

Hey MO,
Im guessing around central Melb, unless your out in the burbs. I like the saw tooth roof and the poky little rooms. x2 on soda blasting the walls to leave some of the paint and you defenatly have to camouflage the the Ibeams. Strip back the stairs to timer ( council will probably make you put anti slip tread ) Is it in an Alley or do you have good street frontage.
Great find in Melb, you must of worked on the owner really well to beat the developers, I know a few and the things they will do to secure a property is dreadful.

Nick.
