Old Wired LED Work Lamp bit the dust, Want Battery replacement

Hi all, first off I'm a bit cheap so that is why I was using a 4 foot LED lamp as a work lamp. I bought a bunch of them for $7 on closeout and this was the last one. It worked well enough providing bright and broad lighting when working on vehicles or projects in the house that needed additional light.

Well, I plugged it in when I was painting a room and no light, so I thought I'd replace it with a battery powered lamp, rechargeable of course and multi-directional too. I'm not married to any battery platform and have Milwaukee M18, Ryobi 40V, Metabo 18/36V and Greenworks 40V.

Of course, I want it to be "bright as the sun", long battery life and low-cost ha, ha.

Could I get some recommendations for your choice of portable lighting without a cord? I did a search without luck, so a link to an ongoing thread would also be great.

For now, I'm going to continue my cheap ways and wire up an old can light my son was throwing away.

Thanks!

Milwaukee has several different work lights for the M18 platform. Spendy, as per standard for Milwaukee, but nice, and they tend to pay close attention to things like the color temperature of their lights so you can see colors more accurately.

Ryobi also has several for their 18V platform, but none for the 40V batteries. Of course, there are plenty of somewhat dubious options on fleaBay and AliExpress. (And plenty of these oddballs out there for M18 as well.)

I'd definitely focus on something that works with a battery platform I already use and will have for the long term. Most rechargeable lights are just trash when the battery poops out.

And of course it might be worth taking your dead light apart for diagnosis. If it's something simple like a broken solder joint you might get lucky. (Or if components or LEDs are visibly torched, then never mind...)

A vote here for the Milwaukee M12 Rover light. I got one more or less on a whim a few years back, and it has turned out to be maybe my most-used accessory. Just the right size for under-hood work, jobs below the dash, or even under-chassis work. It is great inside cupboards and closets. Used it in the crawlspace, too, doing some electrical work. If I broke it, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Now it is true that it does not match the M18 platform. But the advantage of M12 is that the smaller size and lighter weight are really convenient for some tools. And once you start your M12 collection, you might find other tempting tools in the small economy size. :)

I looked up the m12 rover light on Google. $83 at Grainger for just the light and only 700 lumens. Thought I should look at the label for my old LED lamp and it was 4000 lumens. Here are some photos of the current project and the old light and one currently mounted in the gahraj.

I have the prior generation of this light. Dual powered. M18 battery or 120VAC. That's handy. But it's more than $7.
I have lots of Milwaukee batteries and tools, so I look there first.

I have something like this I use when I paint a room. Old eyes need light. There are some tasks I find the battery stuff is not my first pick.
Having lights on a stand or tripod is helpful. FWIW, the first set I had was 2 halogen heads on a tripod that I trash picked. So I do cheap too.

Thanks Dave99 (impressed if that’s your age!) I saw a couple of tripod mount lights left over from Xmas at Home Depot. As my messy garage photo shows I don’t have much storage. I like your Milwaukee suggestion, Metabo has one almost exactly the same and I have their battery system from my circular saw. The small size will see more use in the garage working on the cars.

So I ordered this:

We had some Amazon gift card money in the account so it only cost me $11. That fits in my cheapskate category nicely. Will give a review once i receive it
