Anyone else like them? Here is my small collection. I have not paid more than $10 for any one of them. Two Stanley, Nivella, Hoppe, and one is unmarked.
Yup, I've got a 24" and a 48" that were my dad's. He was a brick mason and used them every day. He passed away in 1990 and I know he had them since I was a small child - I'm 58 now(WTF?! Lol). So they're probably just as old. I've never even looked to see if they have a brand name on them.
My problem is that I love all tools but with limited funds and lack of space I must pass on a lot of tools, levels being one of them. I still love seeing tools and the op has a great collection!
Found one of these at a 2nd hand shop a couple months ago for $20.
Crick 5-piece 48".
It was well used, but still in great shape. Works good and looks great after a good cleaning and a few coats of linseed oil. New ones sell for about $120.
The cool thing about the Excellenta is that it can be used as a line level too! I have never been able to find out anything about Excellenta, so if anyone has any insights, please share!
For that matter, if you know about the American Level Mfg. Co., please share that info as well...
Can anyone tell me anything about the Nivella? I can't find anything about the company on the net. It is Swiss made, 800mm long and teak wood. It is the longest one in the pictures. It may not be as old as I think it is because of the plastic covers on the vials.
