Old wrench

I bought a bucket of old tools from a garage sale and one of the tools was this wrench and I was wondering if anybody had an idea of who made this and when. It’s in pretty rough shape so I can’t see any stamps or inscriptions on it.

I have the same wrench marked "DEERING" on one side and "PAT SEP 7 97" on the other side. Deering made farm equipment and was bought by McCormick in 1902 and thus my wrench was made between 1897-1902. I have also seen McCormick marked ones as well. As to who made it for them, I don't have a clue.

After looking into the international harvester wrenches I saw a wrench that also was in the bucket. Might make sense if it was with the other wrench.

Could be. I believe Lesserstore is correct as well, and that same wrench was used by multiple brands.

Finally got it to work. I forgot to mention that there is a "3" on the side of the bottom jaw, but it doesn't show up on camera. I don't know if this was on every wrench or if it was added by a former owner.

Those "97" adjustables had several "end user" branding on them. Most i seen were agricultural manufacturing in nature. It was a Vandergrift patent, i dob't know who made them either.
I believe they could be different branded after 1902 because the companies that made up "IH" kept their pre consolidation names for brand recognition for years.

According to DATAMP, Mr. Vandegrift, your fellow hoosier, established his own manufacturing company in Shelbyville, which was followed by an enterprise called Monte Wrench Company, in the same location. Road trip?

EDIT: Not shilling for them, no affiliation, etc, but just as reminder, and as I point out in the Sticky at the top of the forum, DATAMP is still my first stop to look up a tool with a patent date forged on or stamped in it without a patent number. You can also look up patent numbers there, but USPTO is more exhaustive for obvious reasons. DATAMP Vandegrift page linked here.

Vandegrift Patent Nut Wrench. Only markings are "PAT. SEP 97" and "26". The ragged rectangular hole seems incongruous.
