It was a Vandergrift patent, i dob't know who made them either.
According to DATAMP, Mr. Vandegrift, your fellow hoosier, established his own manufacturing company in Shelbyville, which was followed by an enterprise called Monte Wrench Company, in the same location. Road trip?
EDIT: Not shilling for them, no affiliation, etc, but just as reminder, and as I point out in the Sticky at the top of the forum, DATAMP is still my first stop to look up a tool with a patent date forged on or stamped in it without a patent number.
