I am looking at an old 105 Yost vise but can’t find anything on them. It has a 5 inch jaw opens 10 inches and has the meatball on front. Does anyone have any idea of worth, details etc. thank you!

-The Yost looks like it has lived a hard life and had some poorly done repairs on the jaws/sides. The Parker appears to be in much better condition but has also had a repaint to places I question.

-Condition is everything and I'd inspect/evaluate any repairs, excess play in the lead screw, and paint locations that might be hiding the repair of a fatal flaw.

-Can't really help or advise on price, almost all older, well made vises have been in the stupid price range since the "collectors/speculators" got involved.

I saw the paint and told the guy I never buy a painted vise. But for the price it’s making thinking twice. I’ve just never heard of the Parker no.DD and I can’t really find anything like it. I saw it on an old brochure from them but I’m not sure what a decent price would be / what it’s worth. Not saying I’m flipping but I like to invest in a vise that I know I’m not losing anything on.

-So this isn't your first vise purchase is it?
But for the price it’s making thinking twice.
-Yes, just imagine the potential.....oh, you already have.
sure what a decent price would be / what it’s worth.
-To whom?
Not saying I’m flipping
-There's enough in what you do say and what you don't say.
but I like to invest in a vise that I know I’m not losing anything on.
-If a vise is for use in the shop I can't see how you would lose anything unless it gets broken. There's only one way you could "lose anything" and I think we've already covered that by the transparency of intentions.

It’s main purpose is for my bench but I don’t think it’s crazy to always try to invest in something that it you ever want to trade or change you don’t lose money? I have 4 other vises at home that I’ve done all the same with. Just was looking for advice as I only have old reeds and craftsman.

-I never called you crazy, there's a different word for people like you.
to always try to invest in something that it you ever want to trade or change you don’t lose money?
-Shop tools = investing vs. using them for intended purpose? A unique perspective for a starting point.
I have 4 other vises at home that I’ve done all the same with.
-I'm sure you have with all of them and with many other things in your life.
Just was looking for advice
-Advice on structural integrity, historical placement, or merely on profit potential? I'm done.

hope you had a nice Christmas and a better new year with a better outlook on people than quick judgement and baseless claims

I wouldn't touch that Yost, looks like there's hidden issues there.

I do have a Yost a friend gave me years ago, I sandblasted it when I got it and gave it a fresh coat of paint. It's pretty nice.

Thank you for the actual feedback! I did decide to pass on both. I just don’t like the idea of buying something painted to just have it crack on me or something when I’m using it
